A native of Los Angeles, California, having sung in church, school choirs, and performing with a local singing group, Bernard began performing professionally at the tender age of 25. Believing in his dream, his best friend loaned him money to pay off all of his bills so he would be able to study dance. After taking 12 classes a week for six months, Bernard went out for his first audition and was hired by the Disney Company to travel to 9 Countries and 22 Cities in Europe for 3 months. For the next 10 years Disney continued to hire Bernard to travel around the world singing songs from the Disney Songbook.
Musical Theater being his first love, Bernard’s International, National, and Regional Tours include productions of “Chicago”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Five Guys Named Moe”, “Kiss Me Kate”, “Lunch”, “Damn Yankees”, “Smokey Joe’s Café”, “Sophisticated Ladies”, “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, and “Too Short To Be A Rockette”, just to name a few.
Bernard made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award Winning Musical “Ragtime”, after having performed the show for a year in Toronto, Canada. Following his run in Ragtime, he was cast in the Broadway production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” as the Dance Captain, Fight Captain, and Swing. Cast in the National Tour of the Las Vegas Company of Chicago, The Musical, as an understudy for Ben Vereen, later he was cast in the Broadway Production as an Understudy and Dance Captain. During his run in the show he understudied and taught the show to Huey Lewis, John O’hurley, George Hamilton, Christopher McDonald, Wayne Brady, Patrick Swayze , Norm Lewis, and Christopher Sieber. In the Broadway Musical “Sweet Smell Of Success”, Bernard had the honor of introducing the song “Laughing All The Way To The Bank”, working closely with the brilliant composers Craig Carnelia and Marvin Hamlisch. Then cast in a play with music by Hamlisch and Carnelia called “Imaginary Friends”, with Book by Nora Ephron. And the show that received the best reviews of it’s season “Finian’s Rainbow.
